Equity Indices

What does a rules-based basket built on PIInneh’s research look like, and how does it behave?

Eleven indices in eight families, each built for one purpose: QuantGDI 50, 150 and 450, diversified baskets of companies selected for low correlation; QuantAIP 100 and 200, machine-learning evidence on fundamentals, projections and forensic indicators; QuantBIOT 100, biotechnology companies assessed on their pipelines, chances of success and cash runway; QuantUV 100, companies trading below intrinsic value whose finances are sound; QuantHM 50, the strongest and most persistent momentum confirmed by the Superradiance trend; QuantDIV 100, dividends supported by cash generation; QuantGTH 100, the strongest projected growth; and QuantLEADER 100, the leaders of each industry. Every index is weighted with Active Floating Market Cap Weighted + 10% Cap (until float data is connected, by full market capitalization), is reconstituted every quarter, and is checked weekly and daily for diversification.

The full method
What goes in
PIInneh’s covered companies with their ratings, distress models, correlations, projections and trends, as each index needs.
How to read it
Performance is shown against broad-market benchmarks. Market Link shows how closely a company moves with the market; a rising Market Link means an index is becoming less diversified. The diagnostics name the companies closest to joining and to leaving.
Limits
The index calendar starts with the first-quarter 2025 reconstitution (March 31, 2025), and the history before it is a back-test. In this preview edition every index level, before and after that date, is a sample series. Past performance does not indicate future results.
How we check it
Each quarter’s list of members carries a fingerprint computed from the list: the page checks that the list shown and its fingerprint agree, and a fingerprint kept from the day of publication shows whether the list has changed since. Each reconstitution shows whether the companies added are more independent than those removed.

The π rating

Nine grades on one scale, for every kind of company.

Every company is rated on one nine-notch scale, from πAAA (strongest) to πC (weakest). The rating comes from the distress model that fits the company’s sector, so a bank, a manufacturer and a clinical-stage biotech are each judged by a test built for them, and the results remain comparable on one scale.

A rating moves when its model crosses a zone line, and the previous rating is kept, so every upgrade and downgrade is visible. How the zones map to the nine grades will be published in the technical specification with the first live ratings.

The right model for every company

Each company is judged by a test built for its kind of balance sheet.

  • Operating companies: Altman Z, checked with Beneish M, Piotroski F, Ohlson O and Zmijewski. PIInneh’s zone lines: safe above 2.99, grey 1.2 to 2.99, distress below 1.2.
  • Financial companies: Merton distance to default and probability of default. PIInneh’s zone lines: safe at 4σ or more, grey 1.2σ to 4σ, distress below 1.2σ.
  • Biotechnology companies: cash runway (DDBio) with the catalyst calendar. Safe at 18 months or more, grey 6 to 18, distress under 6.

The corporate models are never applied to financial or biotechnology companies: their balance sheets are not what those models were built for.

Screener

Which companies pass the tests that matter to me, and how would they fit together?

You set filters in seven groups (universe, forensic health, valuation and rating, forward estimates, industry-relative ratios, trend and portfolio fit), or start from a ready-made screen: Quality at fair value, Deep value, Distress watch, Hedge finder, Biotech catalysts and Index candidates. Financial health is judged by the model that fits each company: Altman Z, Merton distance to default or cash runway. Deep value adds a value-trap guard that removes cheap companies whose finances are weak. The companies that pass can be built into minimum-risk and maximum-Sharpe portfolios, long only with a 10% limit per company unless you choose otherwise.

Six ready-made screensDistress by sectorPortfolio builder
The full method
What goes in
Every covered company’s π rating and distress model, earnings-quality flags, insider activity, upside to intrinsic value, forward revenue estimates and growth score, financial ratios ranked against industry peers, the Superradiance trend, and each company’s correlation with your portfolio.
How to read it
π chips show each rating. Health chips are teal for safe or clean, amber for the grey zone or one flag, red for distress or two or more flags. A funnel shows how each filter narrowed the list, and “why it passed” lists the evidence for every company. The star adds a company to your Watchlist.
Limits
A screen finds companies that meet its tests; it does not rank them by future return. A company with no value for a filter passes that filter rather than being dropped, so check its evidence. Portfolio weights depend on expected returns, which are estimates.
How we check it
A screen is run on one close, so the same filters on the same close always give the same list. Saved screens are rerun daily and show what changed. How screened lists perform afterwards is not yet tracked.

Company Research

What is this company, how strong is it, how is it trending and what is it worth?

One page brings together the company’s π rating and distress model, the PIInneh Quant chart, the Superradiance trend, statistics against its industry, its financial statements and history, financial projections, insider and activist activity, and the Correlation Lab. The Superradiance trend score combines how consistently the stock has beaten its risk over the past year, how much of the year it spent in an uptrend, and its three-month momentum; its strongest reading also needs all four of its confirming checks. An index symbol opens an index view with the company-only parts removed.

π ratingSuperradiance trendPeer percentiles
The full method
What goes in
Price history, financial statements, industry peers, insider and activist filings, and company news.
How to read it
Every statistic shows the company’s figure, its industry’s median and its rank among its peers, with a one-line reading. The trend reads from strong downtrend to strong uptrend.
Limits
Industry comparisons depend on how peers are grouped (the PIInneh Sector & Industry Classification). For a company PIInneh does not cover, the page says so and shows its example company; it never invents figures for an unknown company.
How we check it
The trend page shows a back-test of the Superradiance trend: nine twelve-month periods since 2017, a portfolio of the twelve strongest stocks rebalanced monthly after trading costs. In this preview edition it is computed on sample price data, so it shows how the test works; it is not a record of results.

Industry-Relative Financial Ratios & API

How does this company compare with its own industry, measure by measure?

About 100 measures in eight groups: the company against its industry, market-based valuation, the income statement, the balance sheet, cash flow, risk, return and volatility, return-series risk, and advanced return-series measures. For each one PIInneh shows the company’s figure, the industry median and average, the gap to the median, and the company’s percentile among its industry peers, with a one-line reading of what it means. The same peer percentiles drive the Screener’s industry-relative filters. The Financial Ratios API will deliver these measures to your own systems.

About 100 measuresPeer percentilesRatios API (coming soon)
The full method
What goes in
The company’s financial statements and market data, and the same figures for every company in its industry under the PIInneh Sector & Industry Classification (PSIC).
How to read it
A percentile is the share of industry peers the company is above: at the 90th percentile it is above nine in ten of them. Whether high is good depends on the measure, and the one-line reading says which. The arrow shows how far the figure sits above or below the industry median.
Limits
A comparison is only as good as its peer group: a company that fits its industry poorly, or an industry with few members, gives less meaningful percentiles. A measure marked N.M. (not meaningful), such as gearing for a company with net cash, is not ranked as a number. The ratios describe the latest reported period.
How we check it
Every measure is calculated the same way for every company in the industry, so the percentiles compare like with like. With live data, each ratio will name the filing and the period it was calculated from.

Biotech Evaluation

What is the pipeline worth after its risks, and does the cash last until the next catalyst?

Each program is valued on its own: what it would earn over its commercial life, weighted by its chance of success, less what it still costs to develop. The programs are added together, a reserve is held when value is concentrated in one program, and cash is added to reach a value per share. Cash runway is projected month by month against a safety reserve, not against zero, and compared with the next catalyst date. A scenario lab shows the value if the lead program fails, approval is delayed, the price or market share is lower, or costs rise. Biotech Company Research is the company page for biotechnology: cash runway takes the place of the corporate distress models, and it adds the next catalyst, the funding gap, expected dilution and the Biotech Link in the Correlation Lab.

What goes in
Each drug program’s stage and its probability of technical and regulatory success; the patient funnel (people with the disease, diagnosed, eligible, treated, and the company’s peak share); pricing and access (list and net price, payer coverage, how fast use grows); competition and exclusivity; the company’s ownership of each program; and its cash, spending and financing.
How to read it
Fair value is shown against the share price. Cash runway (DDBio) is safe at 18 months or more, grey from 6 to 18, and in distress under 6. The π rating moves with the runway and the trial readouts.
Limits
Chances of success and launch assumptions are estimates, and they are most uncertain before a drug is approved. The scenarios are stress tests, not a confidence range. PIInneh withholds a market price target and any buy, hold or sell label until its calibration, validation, data licensing and independent review are complete.
How we check it
Every valuation run carries an audit record of its data, parameters and code, and a gate that lists which checks have passed. A figure is authorized only when every check passes.

Financial Estimates & Projections

What will the business earn, and what is that worth per share?

Machine-learning models forecast what drives the business, such as growth and margins. Accounting rules then build revenue, earnings, cash flow and the balance sheet so that they tie together, each with a low and a high case. The projection becomes an intrinsic value per share, using the valuation model that fits the company. Biotechnology companies are valued program by program instead (see above).

The full method
What goes in
The company’s financial statements and segments, its industry’s figures and, with live data, the analyst consensus.
How to read it
Annual and quarterly projections show a range, with the segment split and the industry average beside them. The gap between the price and the intrinsic value is the upside or downside.
Limits
Projections are estimates; the range shows uncertainty, not limits. The valuation model used for each type of company will be published before live values use it.
How we check it
Not yet. With live data, each projection will be kept with its date and compared with the reported results, and the consensus comparison and revision tracking will start.

ML Price Projection Charting System

Where is the price likely to be after a chosen number of bars, and how sure is the model?

Each indicator gives a reading between down and up. The model judges the market’s condition as chances across six regimes, such as a persistent trend, a sideways range or liquidity stress. It replays the recent past, issuing test forecasts and scoring each one only once its outcome is known, so it never learns from information it would not have had. Each indicator and factor earns weight by how well it has predicted this stock, at this horizon and in this regime; indicators that repeat their family are weighted down, and direction is decided by weighted evidence, not by a majority of indicators.

144 indicators80% and 95% bandsChecked forecast by forecast
The full method
What goes in
Price and volume bars, read through 144 technical indicators in eight families (trend, momentum, mean reversion, volatility, volume and flow, market structure, microstructure and statistical context), and 25 factors from the Factor Zoo spanning quant, fundamental and macro data, computed in PIInneh’s backend. In this preview edition the chart runs on a simulated price feed and reads the 144 indicators only; the backend factors join it when live data is connected.
How to read it
A central path with an 80% and a 95% range (targets, not guarantees), the chances of a move up, flat or down after trading costs, the PIInneh EDGE score from −100 to +100, and how reliable the forecast is.
Limits
The bands come from the model’s own past errors on this stock and timeframe, so they apply only there. A move counts only when it would clear trading costs. Reliability falls when the indicators disagree or the regime is unclear.
How we check it
In locked mode each forecast is frozen when it is issued and checked when it matures, and the last 24 are kept for the session; rolling mode reissues the forecast at every bar. A table shows, for each horizon, how often the final ranges contained the outcome: past forecasts, one every 12 bars over the last 300 bars, are issued by the same calculation, with the same rolling training window, as the forecast shown, using only the data available on their date, and their final ranges are scored once the outcome is known. The check runs in the background after the chart opens, and the coverage reads “checking…” until it is done.

Correlation Lab

Which of my stocks move together, where is my risk concentrated, and which mixes and hedges spread it best?

The Lab measures how every pair of stocks moves together and reads the result through four lenses. Overview: the matrix and Market Link, a stock’s typical strength of connection with the whole market, placed in the market’s thirds. Risk: how connections tighten on days the market falls 1.5% or more, how distress could spread, and a shock simulator. Structure: hidden clusters of stocks that move as one, why stocks are connected, how stable the connections are, and which stocks lead others. Action: equal-weight, minimum-risk, maximum-Sharpe and most diversified mixes (long only, at most 10% per company; with fewer than ten companies that limit cannot be met, so those mixes have no limit and the page says so), the efficient frontier, and the best hedge for each holding. The biotech version adds the Biotech Link, a stock’s connection with the biotechnology industry.

What goes in
Up to 150 stocks of your choice, or whole sectors and industries, with their daily returns, volatility, expected return and market sensitivity.
How to read it
Teal is a negative correlation (a hedge), gold is near zero, amber is mild (0.20 to 0.40) and red is elevated (0.40 or more). The Investor Brief rates the list well diversified, moderately diversified or concentrated.
Limits
Correlations describe how stocks moved in the past; they change, and they rise in a crisis. Single stocks rarely stay negatively correlated for long. The mixes depend on expected returns, which are estimates.

Signals

What changed in each stock after the close, and do PIInneh’s methods agree?

Five method groups each give a direction for a stock: up or down. PIInneh counts how many agree, lists the stocks on which three or more agree, and runs four screens: value trap, quality at a discount, smart money and distress watch. Rating migration shows the upgrades and downgrades.

Five methodsAgreementTrack record
The full method
What goes in
π rating changes with their companion models, the Superradiance trend, annual and quarterly earnings estimates and results, the price against intrinsic value, and insider and activist filings.
How to read it
Green points up and red down. Agreement shows how many of the five methods point the same way, and each method shows its track record.
Limits
The methods share some of the same data, so five in agreement are not five independent votes. A signal describes a change; it is not a recommendation to buy or sell.
How we check it
Every call is stored when it is issued and checked against the close 20 and 63 trading days later. The track record shows how often each method was right, by rating band, with losses included.

Watchlist

Is the reason I own this stock still true?

Each condition of a thesis is checked after every close. When all pass, the thesis is Intact; when one fails, Weakening; when two fail or the rating is cut, Broken. For each condition PIInneh finds the price at which it would break and the chance of that within one and three months. The list is also checked for stocks that move too closely together and run through the Black Swan scenarios.

Your stocks, the standard thesis for each one’s industry (which you can edit), and each stock’s rating, distress model, value and trend.
How to read it
Green holds, amber is close to breaking and red has failed. The nearest break is the condition closest to failing.
Limits
A thesis tracks only the conditions it contains. The chance of a break assumes the stock keeps behaving as it has recently. Your list is kept in your own browser.
How we check it
The break chances are compared with what actually happened three months later. Every change in a thesis is written to a sealed journal that shows whether a kept entry was altered.

Reports

What do I need to know to decide about this stock today?

The Decision report answers seven questions on one page: why own it, what it is worth, what would break it, how likely that is, what a crisis would do, who agrees, and what to watch next. The factsheet, Signals, forensic, thesis and Black Swan reports each go deeper into one part. You can read a report in the Investor or the Analyst view, print it, take it to Excel, and record what you decided and why.

Black Swan Lab

If an extreme event happened, which index would hold up best?

Each company takes the shocks through its sector’s sensitivity to each factor, cushioned by its quality and deepened by its fragility, and no loss can exceed 100%. An index’s result is the weighted sum of its members’. PIInneh adds the cost of trading through the stress at your account size, a low-to-high range for the fall, and the time to recover. A resilience score from 0 to 100 combines the fall, the trading cost, the recovery time, concentration and quality. Two broad-market benchmarks take the same shocks for comparison.

11 scenariosResilience scoreRecovery time
The full method
What goes in
Eleven scenarios (AI Bubble Collapse, Rate Shock, Credit Freeze, Liquidity Freeze, Oil Shock, Dollar Spike, Inflation Spiral, Earnings Trust Crisis, 2008 Replay, COVID Replay and Dot-Com Replay) and one you design yourself; each is a set of shocks to twelve market factors. The indices’ actual members and weights, and your account size.
How to read it
The index with the highest resilience score holds up best. Scores fall together in harsher scenarios, so read them as a ranking. The range is a modelled fall, not a guaranteed loss.
Limits
The scenarios are assumed shocks run through a model; they are not predictions, and the Lab does not recommend any index. Watchlists use a simpler version of the same scenarios, so their figures can differ.
How we check it
Four reference scenarios are checked to match PIInneh’s original engine exactly. The 2008, COVID and Dot-Com replays have not yet been compared with what actually happened in those crises.
